The land was purchased by the Town of Old Saybrook on February 20, 1884. As stated in the deed, "said piece of land is forty rods in length and breadth," approximately 10 acres. The cemetery has been in existence over 125 years and continues operation.
The Old Saybrook Riverside Cemetery Association (OSRCA), Incorporated October 20, 1926 and reorganized January 20, 1956, the cemetery was established to provide burial space for the residents of Old Saybrook. The Association has a: President, Superintendent, Secretary, Treasurer, and a Board of Directors.
The Association runs on a calelndar year January 1st thru December 31st. An annual meeting is held during the month of May following the close of business on the previous December 31st.
